Aston Clinton School

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This area involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others. The children will learn to develop social skills and to learn how to manage their feelings and to have confidence in their own abilities.

How do we manage feelings and behaviour?

In Reception we follow the schools Restorative Practice and Behaviour Policy (please use the following link if you would like more information: https://www.astonclintonschool.co.uk/policies/

We develop our Class Charter with the children in the first week of school. We give them examples of positive behaviours we would like them to choose from. An example of some of the positive behaviours are:

  • Always try our best
  • Take turns and share our toys
  • Use our listening ears
  • Are kind to others
  • Learn new things

The Class Charters are underpinned by every child’s rights to an education in a safe, secure environment. ‘You OWN your OWN behaviour’ is what we teach the children to encourage them to take full responsibility for their actions and also think about the consequences if they make the incorrect choice.

In Reception we use a range of positive rewards. Some examples are:

1. Stamp charts

2. Stickers

3. Superstar certificate

4. Headteacher certificates

5. Class marbles

6. Learning Champion of the week
