Pupil Leadership and School Parliament

Pupil voice is central to life at Aston Clinton. We want our children to know that their ideas matter and that they can make a meaningful contribution to improving their school and wider community.

Our School Parliament is modelled on the democratic principles that underpin the United Kingdom's parliamentary system. Through elections, representation, consultation and leadership, pupils learn first-hand how democracy works and how positive change can be achieved through collaboration and service.

The School Parliament is made up of two connected groups: the House of Representatives and the House of Fun. Together, they provide opportunities for children to represent others, contribute to school improvement and develop leadership skills while learning about citizenship and responsibility. 

House of Representatives

The House of Representatives forms the school's pupil voice and school improvement structure. Elected School Councillors work alongside subject Ministers and Ambassadors for STEM, English, Eco, Arts and Wellbeing and Oracy. These pupils gather views from their peers, review school initiatives and help shape developments across the curriculum and wider school life. Similar to elected representatives in Parliament, they act on behalf of others and help ensure that all pupils have a voice. 

House of Fun

The House of Fun focuses on creating a positive, inclusive and vibrant school community. Through leadership roles such as House Captains, Sports Leaders, Librarians, Buddy Brigade, Play Rangers, Peer Mediators, Gardeners, Beekeepers and Office Assistants, pupils take responsibility for areas that enrich daily life at Aston Clinton. These roles help children contribute to their community through service, teamwork and leadership while promoting wellbeing, belonging and enjoyment across the school. 

Through participation in both Houses, pupils gain a practical understanding of democracy, representation, responsibility and community contribution. They learn that leadership is not simply about holding a position of responsibility but about listening to others, acting with integrity and making a positive difference.

These opportunities help pupils develop the confidence, character and leadership skills needed to embody our values of Aspire, Care and Succeed. By giving children genuine opportunities to influence change, support others and contribute to school life, we prepare them to become active, responsible citizens who are ready to play a positive role in modern British society.
