Prevent

'Prevent' is a Government initiative designed to stop young people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism, or extremist causes.

The Prevent Strategy covers all type of terrorism and extremism including extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups, and other causes. From July 2015, schools along with other organisations, have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views in the same way that we protect them from drugs and violence.

Part of the Prevent Strategy is to make people aware of the risks, how to spot radicalisation, and where to go for help if you have concerns. If you are worried about someone you can talk to the school, or get in touch with the Prevent Team for advice and support. To contact the Prevent Team, call the police using the 101 number and ask for a Prevent officer.
