  • Reception Visit Tring Natural History Museum

Fri 19 Jan 2024 Mrs Tennies

The children visited Tring Natural History Museum on Wednesday. We had a lovely time looking around all the exhibits and learning new animal names. We participated in a workshop where we learned about the habitat of the glis glis and several other animals.

The children loved talking about their favourite animals and were all brilliant at finding the animals listed on our animal hunt.

We would like to thank ACSA for funding the majority of this school trip. We would also like to say a big thank you to our parent/carer helpers.

  • Anti-Bully week

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

Monday saw the start of Anti-Bullying week when we encouraged our children and staff to wear odd socks, the idea being that we are all unique and different but we can still get along. The children also had discussions during their PSHE lessons about being kind and speaking out if they feel they are being bullied. Too often, people are silent when they see bullying taking place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when they hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’.

During our assembly we discussed what bullying meant and decided that it is bullying when something/someone is persistently being mean/doing unkind things to us. We then discussed who we could go to for help and created our own help circle.

"We have to stop bullying and look after each other" Aiyaan

"Stop being rude to people everyday" Oscar

"If you do it, it's really rude and you could hurt someone" Sofia

"Tell the teacher (if we are being bullied)" Millie

  • Year 4 - Whipsnade Zoo + Overnight Sleepover

Fri 30 Jun 2023 Miss Keen

On Friday 30th June, Year 4 visited Whipsnade Zoo during the day to learn all about endangered animals. When we got back to school, we enjoyed our 'free time' on the KS1 playground before coming in to eat our dinner. For dinner we had: Domino's pizza, chicken nuggets, garlic bread and ice lollies!

Then came the really fun part... our overnight sleepover! We got our sleeping bags out and set them up next to our friends. We watched a David Attenborough episode whilst eating our late-night sweet snacks! Some of us got to sleep very quickly but some of us were still full of energy (poor teachers!)!

In the morning, some of us woke up really early (5am!) so we watched a film in one of the classrooms whilst everyone else continued to sleep until 7am. It was then time to pack up all our things and have some breakfast together before heading home!

"I loved hearing a tiger yawn, seeing the bears playing together, seeing the penguins swim and holding a butterfly! I also enjoyed watching David Attenborough before bedtime." Lucy 4MW

"I enjoyed going to see the butterfly house because it was fun to see all the different ones. I enjoyed EVERYTHING when we got back to school!" Lily 4MW

"I enjoyed seeing the brown bears playing together and I also enjoyed going into the butterfly house. I loved the Domino's pizza, watching David Attenborough and ice lollies!" Macy 4MW

"I liked when we watched David Attenborough, ate lots of snacks and stayed up late!" Ethan K 4MW

"It was really fun because I saw my favourite animal in the world... penguins! I didn't get much sleep but it was really fun to have the sleepover." Dennis 4OL

"It was exciting to find some animals that I hadn't seen before. The sleepover was really good and I liked the pizza!" Zachary 4OL

"I liked it when we saw the tigers because I heard them roar. I liked the garlic bread and the sleepover... although I didn't get to sleep!" Harriet 4OL

"I liked when we went to the zoo because I saw my favourite animal (giraffe). The sleepover was funny because we were making jokes." Evie 4OL

  • ACSA Thank you

    Fri 14 Apr 2023

    Good morning ACSA,

Thank you very much for the £300 that you donated to Year 4. We decided to put the money towards an educational visit for the children. On Tuesday 21st March, Year 4 visited Ufton Court (in Reading) for a fun filled day all about the Anglo-Saxons. The children experienced a variety of Anglo-Saxon games, developed their weaving/ spinning skills and also took part in an exhilarating re-enactment of the ‘Battle of Reading’!

    What did the children think?

“I really enjoyed the battle. I was the King of the Anglo-Saxons and I ruled the rest of the class, they were my farmers/ soldiers. I enjoyed the different battle formations that we fought in.” Charlie 4MW

“I liked when we made sparks with flint and steel. I also did some weaving to make a fence and spun wool to try and make string.” Macy 4MW

“I liked playing all the Anglo-Saxon games. My favourite was ‘cub’. You had to try and knock down wooden posts by throwing a stick at them. It was kind of like bowling.” Ethan M 4MW

“I enjoyed the whole day! I really liked the battle because our class were the Anglo-Saxons and the other class were the Vikings. We won in the end!” Lucy 4MW

“I loved the activities that we played inside and outside. My favourite game was the dice game where you had to try and lie to your partner about the number you rolled.” Dennis 4OL

“I loved re-enacting the Battle of Reading. Not only did we get to act it out, we learnt so much about it!” Seyi 4OL

“My favourite part was when we took part in the battle. We were the Vikings and the other class were the Anglo-Saxons.” Zachary 4OL

“I liked learning about the Anglo-Saxon skills. I spun wool, made sparks using steel and flint and I also wattled fencing using bamboo.” Isla 4OL

We have also attached some photos from the day to this email.

Once again, thank you very much for the donated money. This educational trip would not have been possible without it.

    Many thanks,

    The Year 4 Team

  • Police Visit the School

    Fri 27 Jan 2023

Last Friday, the whole school enjoyed a visit from our local PCSOs. They talked to the children about the things they do to make our communities safer. They also talked about stranger danger and vandalism amongst other important issues. KS1 children had the opportunity to look at a police car; they loved hearing the sirens and seeing the blue lights. They also saw some of the equipment that police officers use such as road signs and ‘the big red key’ used to knock doors down. The children listened well and asked lots of great questions.
